MANAGERS END OF SEASON REPORT...........
Where do i start....
Plyd 18 , W - 10, D - 2, L - 6
Man of the Match :
Blu = 3 / Andrew = 4 / Greg = 2 / Jack = 2 / Sudais = 3 / Tom = 2 / Luke = 1 /TEAM = 1
Goal scorers :
Tom = 17 /Tarun = 2 / Mat = 6 / Blu = 1 / Andrew = 8 / Sudais = 2 / Jack = 1 / Edward = 2
When i used to play, I could never quite understand how at training my manager used to tell us, that we had ruined his weekend !!!!.... never really knew what he meant, and had always thought that he was taking this all too seriously.
But now standing on the side of the pitch, I can understand maybe what was going through my old managers head BUT the difference between him and I is that..... Football makes my weekend, and I absolutely love watching the TEAM develop, play, learn, smile and frown from week to week.
At times, you do stand and think, 'they aint listening'... but they do... they try and throughout this season the boys set themselves a benchmark...... and i got to say, i was worried that they couldnt live upto it.... but they surpassed any expectations i had and they made their game good.
Riverside do not give up, they dont argue between each other, their support is fantastic, the parents cheer both teams throughout the game..... and the players try to play the simple but beautifull game.
As the games ticked past, and we approached Xmas, League Winners was being talked about. Not from me, but the players !!!.... they had a chance. The other teams were now turning up and knowing they had a hard game in store..... Even some other managers were telling me that they only wanted to beat Riverside, they didnt even care about others but just wanted to beat us....!!!!... That is actually a huge compliment to the players.
Maybe towards the end of the season, the boys psychologically 'lost' the league, the last run of results proves that..... but.... they never gave up....
Tom celebrated netting his 50th in two seasons !!!!!.... an amazing acheivement...
I havent scored 50 in my entire career !!! and i know steve would say that i was too worried about messing up my hair to head the ball !....
Overall, its been a great season, and as we move towards next season, I feel confident that our passing game will stand us in good sted.
Well done boys, i have had a great season, and its been a pleasure watching from the side.....
I cant wait for next season.................

Match Report for Sunday 29th March 2009
Echo Junior League - Under 10's - Mersey Division
Jays 1 v RRFC 0
Jays needed a win or a draw to win the League, and played like they wanted it..... Riverside rose to the challenge and played with pride.
Riverside created chances and left themselves a little open at the back, resulting in Greg pulling off the save of the season. The ball flying into the top left corner, and somehow Greg grew wings and pushed the ball around the post. It was a magnificent saved bringing thunderous applause from both sets of Supporters.
Jays kept up the pressure and played some nice football, but Sudais and Blu held firm and cleared up at the back. Tom carrying an injury was doing his best for the team, whilst Tarun decided to run at Jays. This proved to be key in making some excellent opportunities.
As the end of the half approached, Jays broke through and finished off a fine move, making in 1 - 0 to the home team.
A quick change of tactics, and personnel and Riverside went into the second half hungry for an equaliser. Sudais made some fantastic challenges at the back, and Jack slotted in alongside him. Tom then had to come off, and Edward went up front.
More chances came and went, and Riverside knew the clock was ticking down. So they stepped up the tempo, and the game changed ........ Jays started to tire, and get caught out of position, and more chances went begging.
At the final whistle, Jays ran out the victors and Riverside cheered and applauded the newly crowned League champions.
Sudais was awarded the man of the match, with a superb display of reading the game and excellent timing in the tackles... well done Sudais.

Echo Junior League - Under 10's - Mersey Division
Collier Row 2 v RRFC 0
Collier Row proved strong opponents. Both teams have played each other so many times, that they know each others game and formation inside out.
A good end to end game that proved literally a game of two halves.
Collier Row scored 2 goals in quick succession, with some good pressure and passing. Greg in goal tried in vain to hold onto one of the shots, but the ball bounced away leaving Collier Row quickest to react to the ball, and netting for 1 - 0.
As the first half rolled on... the ball bounced loose onto the edge of the box, resulting in only one place the ball was going to end up. Thankfully the net was in place otherwise the ball would still be flying !!.
Into the second half, Riverside brushed off the cobwebs and took the game to Collier Row. Chance after chance occured but the Collier Row keeper stood firm. Riverside always have difficulty scoring past this keeper !!!!. Jack partnered Blu at the back, and held firm throughout the game. He played like a giant, controlled and read the game well, which ended with him wining Man of the Match, and deservedly so.
A good game, a 'dodgy' ref (lol), and as always a well played game from both teams....

Match Report for Sunday 15th March 2009
Echo Junior League - Under 10's - Mersey Division
Millwall Albion 3 v RRFC 1
From the off, Milwall wanted the result more. They attacked Riverside well and played to their stengths. Riverside had opportunities to push Millwall back but never had the determination to finish the game off.
Riverside held firm, against the run off play and took the lead with a toe-in from Tarun. Into the break, Riverside went 1-0 up.
As the second half started, Riverside definitly lived up to the old pun 'The game is made up off two halfs'.... Riverside just didnt get going. It was coming as Millwall grabbed an equaliser and took the zest towards wanting a second.
Riverside tried to move the ball, but today it was just not going to happen for them. Frustration grew into their game, and the rub of the green went away from them. More opportunities fell to Riverside but today wasnt to be.
Millwall snatched a second goal from a good corner, and as Riverside tried to get a point out of the game, the Millwall keeper stood firm.
A third flew in for Millwall and within a minute the final whistle blew leaving Millwall deserved winners of the game.
Credit to both teams for playing well and within the spirit of the game.
Man of the match for Riverside was Blu, whom had an excellent first half and didnt give up till the final whistle.

RRFC 3 v Havering Atte Bower 0
The last home game of the season for Riverside and the visitors made it hard work.
Havering settled into their game and defended well, stopping Riverside from taking an early lead. The Havering goalkeeper had an excellent game and threw himself in front of everything. The Captain for Havering kept the momentum for the visitors and led from the front.
Riverside knew they had a tough game as the 1st half ticked by. Chances fell for Riverside but they just could not make them count. At half time the scores were 0 - 0. With a quick team chat and a few changes, Riverside came out in the second half with more determination about their game.
They quickly started to move the ball better and inter-linked well in the midfield, setting up Edward to blast the ball into the top left had corner.Havering continued to counter attack and did not give up, forcing the Riverside defence into some last ditched tackles.
Halfway through the second half, Riverside took a quick throw, moving the ball down the left for a fine pass to pick out Jack to slot home making it 2-0.
As the game neared the end, Tarun attacked the goal, slipped past two players and fired the ball from an almost impossible angle into the net.Havering continued to take the game to Riverside and their determination nearly paid off with an opportunity from a corner, that went narrowly wide.

RRFC 0 v Collier Row 2
Two teams that know exactly how each other play provided yet again a great game for both sets of players and spectators
Both team started wanting the three points, and Collier Row pressured Riverside well. The Riverside keeper Gregg made some great saves in the first half to keep the scores level at half time.
Into the second half and all to play for. Both teams made some tactical changes, and tried to outwit each other. Riverside were slower out of the blocks than Collier Row and as Row pushed forward with some great passing, they found an unmarked player whom slotted the ball into the net. Riverside picked themselves up and pushed hard for the equaliser with some good uptempo play. Constantly keeping the ball in play, and within the danger zone, Riverside failed to take their chances.
As the minutes ticked away, Collier Row attacked well resulting in a corner. From the corner, the ball played into the penalty spot, and the ball deflected off an out-stuck leg into the goal.

Echo Junior League - Under 10's - Mersey Division
Colebrook Royals 'B' 1 v RRFC 3
A tricky game today for Riverside. It was difficult for Riverside to stride into their passing game. They made some great attempts on goal but Colebrook fought well and kept the visitors at bay.
Colebrook goalkeeper played well and was proving to be a constant thorne for Riverside.
With some short interchanges and some good movement off the ball Riverside set up Tom to slot the ball into the corner of the net.
Colebrook constantly threatened to grab an equalisier but Man of the Match for Riverside Andrew, intercepted a pass to set up an attacking move which resulted in the ball falling loose and Edward fired the ball into the roof of the net, to grab his first for Riverside.
Jack and Blu for Riverside had held firm in the back for most of the game. And with Mat and Tarun trying to get width on the pitch, Colebrook was finding it hard to create goal scoring opportunities.
But Colebrooks' determination finally paid off and as Riverside failed to clear the ball, Colebrook smashed the ball home to make it 2-1.
With only minutes left on the clock and Colebrook pressing hard for an equaliser, Andrew again used the ball well and played the ball into the path of Tom, whom turned inside the player and picked his spot to secure a 3-1 victory
Both sets of players and supporters were a credit to the game, and special mention to the referee Colin Hankin whom protected the players at all times.

Echo Junior League - Under 10's - Mersey Division
Riverside Rangers FC 2 v Woodford Youth 'B' 1
This was always going to be a tough fought game for both teams. The lack of regular football for Riverside showed as they failed to get their passing game going. Woodford kept sustained pressure on Riverside throughout the first half, with the Riverside keeper Gregg stopping everything thrown at him.
With the score level at 0-0, and the game nearing the end of the first half. Riverside settled into their game and they started to threaten the Woodford goal. A swift counter attack, resulted in Tom firing goalbound and the Woodford defender handled the ball inside the box. Andrew kept his composure to put Riverside ahead.
Into the second half, and Woodford continued their pressure hoping for the Riverside keeper Gregg to falter, but he stood firm to eventually and deservedly win Riverside's Man of the Match.
Riverside kept their cool, played their game and used the ball to present Tom with the second for Riverside. Riverside then tried to close the game by keeping the ball and making Woodford work hard.
The effort and determination paid of for Woodford as they rallied and netted a goal to set up some nervy final minutes.
With the minutes ticking down and enthuasiatic support, the passion of the beautifull game took hold.
Riverside failed to buckle to snatch the three points....

Echo Junior League - Under 10's - Mersey Division
Ferns 3 v Riverside Rangers FC 4
Tom gets his 50th for the club............ A fantastic acheivement by any standards. Tom has reached the 50th goal within his second season for Riverside Rangers FC. All team mates and supporters celebrated with Tom as he fired number 50 today.
The game as always against Ferns was a nail bitter. Both teams playing their first game after the Xmas break showed that you cant beat playing regular football week in week out.
Riverside took the lead early on with a well taken goal by Sudais. Ferns replied instantly and this set the tone for the game. It was end to end stuff with both keepers involved and some great counter attacking football from both teams. Ferns pressured to take the lead but resolute defending and cool composure kept them at bay.
Mat then ran the ball down the right, and exchanged passes with Tom for Mat to slot the ball home. Again within one minute of the restart Ferns equalised.
Moving into the second half, Riverside started to shake off the rust and started to push the ball around. Some early quick passing from Andrew put Tom through on goal to net his 49th !!.
Once again Ferns didnt waste time, and again equalised... With literally 3 minutes left on the clock and tired legs all around the pitch. Both teams looked as though they were happy to share the points. Ferns then broke through with Sonny bearing down on the keeper. He let fly and the Riverside keeper made an outstanding save to prevent Ferns taking the lead. From the throw out Riverside passed the ball through the middle, resulting in a goal mouth scramble.
The game deserved to end in a draw but as the goalmouth scramble contiued, the ball broke free to Tom and he powered the ball into the net for his 50th and a celebration that will be remembered for the rest of the season.
Overall a great game, fantastic sportsmanship, played with total Respect and the three points could have easily gone either way.
Well done to both teams and their supporters.

LEASIDE COLTS v RRFC
Played three lots of 15 mins each way.... Leaside were eventual overall winners , score 3 - 1.
Man of the match for Riverside was Andrew, whom did not stop running for the team, and won every challeng. Well done Andrew
Incredibly cold and wet morning, here comes Xmas !!!.... With a few regulars missing and Edward's first run out for the team. Today was going to be tricky.
Leaside are currently playing two divisions above us, and we took the game to them. We battled well and tried to pass the ball, making opportunties. But the slop of the pitch made it difficult in the first game to counter attack. We went ahead with some nice passing between Mat, Tom and Andrew, resulting in Andrew slotting home from close range.
Leaside then pressured the ball and squeezed an equalisier home just before the end if the first game.
In the two remaining games, we switched players around, and simply played for fun. We played well in places. We created a few chances for Tom ( whom has now scored 43 goals in total since joining the club ) and at one point, he was on for his 44th !!!!... Clean through on goal, only the keeper to beat, he got his head up and smashed the ball ................ onto the post !!!.... number 44 went begging...
Riverside played well and kept battling. Some good points to take away from today....
YES its cold... and it will be until March 09...
Back to league action next week.....

Match Report for the Harold Hill FC Summer Tournament, Sunday 6th July 2008
It was a learning curve today. We were placed in the same group as Harold Hill A, UPR, Corringham Athletic A, Senrab and Euro Dagenham.
Credit to the opponents, they passed very well, were stronger into the tackle and quicker to the ball but Riverside battled well and got a 1 - 0 victory against Corringham. A well taken goal by Andrew clinched our only points in this group.
Into the final stages we were paired against Dagenham Park Rangers. Winners of this game took home a trophy with each player receiving a medal. At half time it was a solid 0 - 0. And then into the second half Riverside created numerous chances with Jack popping up at the back post but not managing to convert the chances. As the clock ticked away, everyone expected penalties... and then Riverside counter attacked and some great inter play between Andrew Sudais and Tom, resulted in Tom breaking free with just the keeper to beat. Support players ploughed into the box ready for a rebound but it wasnt needed as Tom kept his cool and placed the ball into the net. Riverside ended the game victors at 1 - 0.
Special mention to Gregg whom was outstanding today. Kept Riverside in contention and made some fantastic saves. Player of the tournament.
Jack on his debut played well and started to link up with Tom.
A good TEAM performance, some excellent challenges and individual efforts.
Today was alwasy going to be a test but Riverside didnt buckle and played to the end with heart and spirit.

Match Report for the Collier Row FC Summer Tournament, Sunday 29nd June 2008
Another fantastic team, performance from Riverside Rangers FC. We played 5 games in total, against Collier Row, Dagenham Utd, Dagenham Park Rangers, Ferns and Newbury Forest.
First up we played Ferns and secured a 1 - 0 victory with a well worked counter attack resulting in a nice goal by Tom.
Next came the eventual winners Dagenham Utd. They were a very strong passing team whom had great skillful individual players. After knocking on our door and hitting the post twice, finally they managed to score one past Greg. Dagenham Utd won 1 - 0, handing our first defeat in 13 games !!!!!!!.
In our third game we played our arch enemies (meant in a nice way) Collier Row and once again Riverisde took the game to them. We threatened through the game to take the lead but Collier Row stood firm. Losing in the Barking Youth league Cup Final to Collier Row gave the boys all the motivation they needed. A fantastic effort from Riverside gifting Tom the chance to slot home. Tom kept his cool and struck the winning blow .... 1 - 0
The fourth game saw Riverside shake up the formation and try new things. Alas this didn't prove too succesfull. Andrew scored a cracking goal. Dagenham Park Rangers pulled one back. Time for a quick change and different tactics proved the right move as Riverside went on to win 3 -1, with additional goals scored by Sudais and Tarun. Well Played guys
In our last game against Newbury Forest, Tom popped up again after coming on as sub and netted the winning goal, securing a 1 - 0 victory.
In total played 5, Won 4, Lost 1... again a great team performance. Some excellent passing and resolute defending from Blu and Luke helped to push Riverside onto a solid display.
Each players received a medal for their efforts and we departed with smiles all round knowing that once again the opposition are keeping a close eye on Riverside Rangers...
We anticipate a good league campaign this season..... Next week we are off to Harold Hill Tourney......

Yet another outstanding performance from the Riversiders !!!!!.........
Playing against Woodford 'B', Buckhurst Hill 'B', Woodford 'C', Bealonians and Cobra 'B'.
Only the top four teams progressed into the semi final. In our first five games we were yet again unbeaten. With Tom scoring 2 and Tarun getting 1. Played 5 games, won 2, Drew 1. Greg only conceeded ONE goal all day...... a fantastic team effort.
Ending up runners up in our group stage we went into the Semi Final UNBEATEN....
The semi final was against Woodford 'B', (whom will be playing next season in the Division above us) . We took the game to them and soaked up the pressure well.
At half time it was 0 - 0 . A quick team chat and change of tactics, spurned the Riversiders on in the second half. Midway through the half, Sudais played a lovely square ball out to Tarun, whom threaded a great pass into Toms feet. Tom strode towards goal and got his head up, then sent the keeper to the ground and slotted the ball home. !!!!...... It was 1 - 0 to the Riversiders...
We defended strongly to protect our goal advatange and as the final whistle blew, celebrations rang out as we marched into the FINAL ( thats two weeks in a row !!!!! ).
This time win or lose we were gauranteed silverware... Come on the Riversiders !.
Time for the final.... Riverside Rangers (unbeatean ) versus Buckhurst Hill ( whom we beat earlier in the day ).
It was tight affair, chances either end but both teams held on well..... It finshed 0 - 0, resulting in the dreaded penalty shoot-out....
Greg Sach saved two penalties but alas the Riversiders couldnt take advantage as we ended up Runners Up.
All in all. The boys should be proud, another piece of silverware for our trophy cabinet.

To be honest, what can i say !!! It was a glorious day over at Westlands Playing Fields, the pitches were not in the best condition for free flowing football, but we adapted well to the challenge and took the game to the other teams.
We played 6 games in total, and finished the afternoon UNBEATEN. We drew 3 and Won 3, resulting in a runners up spot. Alas no trophies were awarded for runners up, but we had plenty of opportunities to grasp the Winners Trophy.
After spending most of last season playing against older teams, this was a good measure to see how we would perform against our own age group. And credit where it was due, the boys did us proud. Most of the teams we will also be facing in the Echo League this season, so we wait with baited breathe.
Tom netted 5 goals in total, with Tarun finsihing off a well worked corner. Andrew turned and chipped the ball into the top corner resulting in bedlum erupting from the loyal supporers. Ray proceeded to perform a goal celebration worthy of winning an entry on youtube.com !!!!
All in all, it was a great performance from the team. Mainly because it was a TEAM performance.
The results were :
RRFC 1 - Ferns 1 (Tom 1)
RRFC 0 - Havering Borough 0
RRFC 4 - Dagenham Utd 1 (Tom x 3, Tarun 1)
RRFC 0 - Collier Row 0
RRFC 1 - Cobra 0 (Tom 1 )
RRFC 1 - Upminster 0 (Andrew 1)
We are eagerly awaiting the next tournament at Buckhurst Hill...............

The Barking Youth League Cup Final, Sunday 11th May 2008
We had to play two games : Newbury Forest and Collier Row, with each game lasting just 15 mins.
Newbury Forest and Collier Row had already played and they only managed a 1-1 draw. Therefore if we won our first game this would give us a great chance to lift the cup.
Our first game was against Newbury Forest and we ran out 3 - 0 winners with goals scored by Tom and Lee (2).
We started the game very strong, good passing moves and started to create chances early on. Tom carried the ball into the penalty box and showed great composure to strike the ball into the back of the net, giving us an early lead. Lee then came on as sub and slotted into centre midfield. Great exhanges between Lee , Regan and Tom, resulted in a goal from Lee.. Lee then went onto score his second by winning the ball from their goal kick and carried the ball to the edge of the box and then unleashed a fierce shot under the keeper.
An excellent performance by everyone, great defending, hardwork from everyone and good passing between Regan, Andrew, Lee and Tom. A well deserved victory.
Our Second game against Collier Row only required a draw or a victory to lift the cup. Our philosophy is to play flowing attacking football and not play for the draw. Collier Row came out with guns blazing knowing that to lift the cup they needed a win.
We soaked up the pressure well with excellent defending from Luke and Sudais, we counter attacked well down the flanks with Tarun and Andrew. Regan set up a flowing move with a well timed pass out to Tarun on the right whom threaded the ball through to Tom down the right hand side. Tom composed himself well and looked up for the cross, as Andrew sprinted into the box. A great low cross from Tom into the path of Andrew whom blasted the ball goal bound. The keeper was beaten, the ball smashed off the underside of the cross bar and hit the goal-line to rebound the wrong way !!!, instead of going into the goal it bounced back into the penalty box. A brilliant move which should have given us the lead but alas it never went in.
Riverside continued to pressure the Collier Row keeper but he played well keeping the score level. As the clock ticked down, Collier Row won a free kick near the box. The ball was blasted into the box and took two nasty deflections of Riverside players and everyone watched as the ball bounced awkwardly past Greg into the net, giving Collier Row the only goal they needed.
With just minutes to go Riverside went on the attack, desperate to get the goal they needed but just never managed to grab that vital goal.
Riverside ran out Runners Up and each player collected a trophy (see below) for their superb efforts. A great team performance by everyone. Well done lads.........
